The Chico City Council elections

Election day was November 8th, and the results are in. In a previous post, I mentioned that Chico City council district #s 2, 3, 4, and 6 were up for reelection. We now have results that show some clear winners, and some others that are a very close race.

As of the writing of this post, only one progressive candidate appears to have won their election. Addison Winslow of District 4 won with 2,027 votes vs. 1,434 votes for Nichole Nava. This was a much needed election win however, as Nichole Nava has an incredibly poor track record and is disliked by many on both sides.

The other progressive candidates were Monica McDaniel for District 3, Morgan Kennedy for District 2, and Jesica Giannola for District 6. Kasey Reynolds, part of the Schuberts business family ran against Morgan Kennedy for District 3 and be elected the councilmember. She won with 2,055 votes vs. Morgan Kennedys 1,630. Tom Van Overbeek, recently seen having a beer with Rob Berry, won against Jesica Giannola with 2,839 votes vs. 2,076 votes.

A very close race right now is with Dale Bennett and Monica McDaniel. Just earlier today I saw that Monica was beating out Dale, however as of now the votes read 2,525 for Dale Bennett and 2,505 for Monica McDaniel. It would be unfortunate to only have 1 progressive candidate out of the 4 be elected, however the win we did get was definitely worthwhile. Nichole Nava has consistently shown that she does not have the maturity to be elected and in politics, regardless of what political side she represents.

I do feel like I could have done more this election cycle. As I write this now, I realize the importance of getting people to vote. I have an idea in my head that the next election cycle we have in Chico for our districts, I would love to get involved even further by helping our progressive candidates do canvasing in the districts that are up for reelection. What if it just swayed 26 people? In some districts as we can see, this would have been enough.
